The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) today announced Chicago’s Rosenwald Courts Apartments project, once home to record producer Quincy Jones, boxer Joe Louis, and Olympian Jesse Owens, as the recipient of the 2018 ACHP/HUD Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.

Yesterday in Boston, the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA) presented nine prestigious “Timmy” Awards. This is the 11th year of the program that honors the memory of Boston architect, educator and preservation advocate, Timothy J. Anderson and acknowledges outstanding real estate projects that transform older, historic buildings into new uses with historic tax credits.
Over the weekend, Stony Island Arts Bank was honored at Landmarks Illinois’ 2016 Richard. H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards. This program is designed to recognize “extraordinary stories of people saving special places throughout the state and show how historic restoration has a positive impact on communities, the environment and the people of Illinois.”
In a reception held today at the Chicago Athletic Association, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks will honor four MHA Midwest projects among their 2016 Preservation Excellence Award winners. The Commission’s annual Preservation Excellence Awards recognize outstanding rehabilitation projects that involve notable improvements to Chicago local landmarks.
MHA Midwest was part of a project team honored on September 28th, 2016 at Mercy Housing Lakefront’s Moving Forward Together dinner for our work on The Lofts on Arthington in Chicago. MHA Midwest along with our fellow project partners accepted the 2016 Wintrust Partners in Innovation Award, given by Wintrust Ventures to community leaders and organizations that are catalysts for change.
Dominium was named a winner of the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits 2016 Rehabilitation Awards, which will be presented at the Novogradac 2016 Historic Tax Credit Conference in Cleveland. The Historic Rehabilitation Awards were awarded to development teams for developing outstanding properties using the historic tax credit (HTC).
In a field of 12 finalists for ULI Chicago’s 5th Annual Vision Awards, MHA Midwest was the historic consultant for four projects: ARC at Old Colony, Chicago Athletic Association, Hampton Inn (Chicago Motor Club), and Stony Island Arts Bank. These projects represented almost all of the landmark properties that made the list, and are outstanding examples of adaptive reuse and the positive impacts of historic tax credits.
