Junior Associate

MHA is seeking a Junior Associate for its Chicago office to assist with client services and project management for federal and state historic tax credit applications. MHA offers a fast-paced and stimulating work environment that is deadline-driven.

The chosen candidate will:  

  • assist in preparing federal Historic Preservation Certification Application Parts 1, 2, and 3;

  • research and assist in writing National Register nominations and landmark designation reports;

  • provide support to MHA project managers for historic rehabilitation projects;

  • interface with clients, project team members, and federal, state, and local regulators;

  • and help with administrative tasks necessary for the smooth operation of a small office.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in historic preservation or a closely related field;

  • Work experience in federal, state or local preservation programs is preferred but not required;

  • Familiarity with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation;

  • Strong organizational skills and initiative;

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;

  • Keen attention to detail;

  • Proficiency in historical and online research;

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a deadline-driven and often fast-paced environment;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software;

  • Proficiency with digital photography and image-editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite; and

  • Ability to travel.
