Richard Sidebottom is the Director of the MHA Southeast office in Charleston, SC and has ten years of expertise with the federal and state historic tax credit programs. He has worked with clients on historic rehabilitation tax credit applications in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia and National Register nominations in Virginia, Massachusetts, North Carolina and South Carolina.
In the Southeast, Richard provides consulting services for federal and state historic tax credit certification, the National Register of Historic Places, South Carolina Textile Community Tax Incentives, Section 106 and many local incentive and regulatory programs. He works with clients to identify creative solutions that address project needs and meet regulatory requirements for the historic tax credit programs. He maintains excellent working relationships with review staffs at the National Park Service and various State Historic Preservation Offices.
Prior to joining the MHA Northeast office in 2010, Richard ran a private historic preservation practice in South Carolina with projects that include the National Register nomination for the Charleston Naval Hospital District and historic tax credit applications within that district. He is also the former supervisor of compliance, tax incentive and outreach programs with the South Carolina State Historic Preservation Office.
Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Classical Studies from Emory University and a Master of Architectural History and Historic Preservation degree from the University of Virginia.
He has served on the South Carolina National Register Review Board (2009-2012) and is a former teacher of graduate and undergraduate historic preservation courses at Clemson University, the College of Charleston, and the University of South Carolina.
