Jennifer F. Hembree
Senior Associate
 Jennifer Hembree, a Senior Associate in the Washington, DC headquarters of MacRostie Historic Advisors, is an expert in the application and certification requirements for rehabilitation projects seeking the 20% federal rehabilitation tax credit. Since joining the firm in 2002, Jen has prepared over four dozen Historic Preservation Certification Applications (Parts 1, 2, and 3) and National Register nominations for projects across the United States, including Alaska and Hawai'i. She has prepared federal tax credit applications for a variety of developments, including multiple building complexes and scattered sites. Jen is an accomplished architectural historian and historical researcher; her National Register credentials include L. Greif & Bro., Inc. Manufactory (Maryland), Hotel Dale (Kansas), Wahkonsa Hotel (Iowa), McKinley Tower Apartments (Alaska), the Winston-Salem Tobacco District (North Carolina) and most recently, the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company Headquarters (Connecticut). She has also prepared a number of preliminary nominations including those for the California Packing Corporation Warehouse (California), The Saratoga Building (Louisiana), and the Knik Arm Power Plant (Alaska).
Earlier in her career, Jen served as a field and lab technician on archaeological excavations in Morocco and presented findings on the subject at the 2000 Society for American Archeology Annual Meeting. She has worked in administrative and technical capacities for the American Association of Museums publications department, and has held data and collections management intern positions with the Archeology and Ethnography Program and the Museum Management Program, both divisions of the National Park Service.
In her spare time, Jen researched historical and graphical information for development of numerous trail signs along the Alexandria Heritage Trail in Virginia. She serves as the volunteer coordinator for the Alexandria Legacies Oral History Program. Jen is also a contributor to the Historic Rehabilitation Advisor, a monthly newsletter from the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association for real estate, tax, and historic rehabilitation professionals regarding information about federal tax incentives.
Jen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, as well as a Master’s degree in American Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Maryland-College Park. Jen is a member of Friends of Alexandria Archaeology and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. |
